Put Down the Razor: It’s Time to Sugar
Ready to Stop Shaving? How to Transition Back to Sugaring This Fall
If you've spent the summer reaching for your razor, you're not alone. Bare legs, swimsuits and warmer weather have a way of making shaving part of the routine.
But now that fall is here, you may be ready to put the razor away and get back to sugaring.
Good news: you can. There is just one catch. You have to let the hair grow.
Stop Shaving Before Your Sugaring Appointment
Sugaring removes hair from the root, so your hair needs enough length for the sugar paste to grip.
After shaving, you'll generally want to allow 2 to 4 weeks of hair growth, depending on how quickly your hair grows. The ideal length is approximately ¼ inch, or 6 mm.
Not sure if your hair is long enough? Don't stress. Your sugarist can help determine whether you're ready when you arrive.
And remember, you don't need to show up freshly shaved. In fact, the hair is the reason you're here.
Don't Shave Between Sugaring Appointments
This is the hard part.
Once you've stopped shaving, you may be tempted to grab the razor when you notice new growth. Resist the urge.
Shaving between sugaring appointments means cutting the hair back down and starting the growing-out process again.
Let it grow. Let us remove it. Repeat.
Once you get into a regular sugaring routine, you can stop constantly planning around your razor.
What to Expect at Your First Sugaring Appointment Back
Your first appointment after a summer of shaving may be a little different from future appointments.
Shaving cuts hair at the surface, while sugaring removes it from the root. Because of this, you may have hairs growing at different stages when you return to sugaring. That's completely normal.
Don't worry about having everything perfectly synchronized. Your first appointment is simply the starting point for getting back into a regular routine.
Your job is to stop shaving and let it grow. We'll take it from there.
How to Get Back Into a Regular Sugaring Routine
After your first appointment, consistency is key.
Rather than shaving when you notice new growth, allow the hair to grow until your next sugaring appointment. Your sugarist can help you determine the best schedule based on your individual hair growth and the area being treated.
Regular sugaring allows you to work with your natural hair-growth cycle instead of constantly resetting it with a razor.
In other words, don't sabotage your next appointment with a last-minute shave.
Break Up With Your Razor This Fall
You don't have to wait until spring to start sugaring again.
If you've been shaving all summer, fall is a great time to reset your hair-removal routine. Give your hair time to grow, book your sugaring appointment when it's ready, and then stick with your schedule.
A little patience now can help you get out of the shave-and-regrow cycle and back into a routine that works for you.
